Radiotherapy & Proton Eligibility Review

An independent expert review of radiotherapy indication, technique and eligibility for proton therapy.

This page currently uses template content. It will be updated once the final text is provided.

Why a separate review?

In radiotherapy the decision is not limited to "should radiation be given?". The choice of technique, dose, fractionation and target volume determine both treatment success and side effects.

Proton therapy is not advantageous for every patient. Eligibility is determined by weighing tumor location, patient age and the need to spare surrounding tissue together.

What is reviewed

  • Whether the radiotherapy indication and its timing are appropriate
  • Choice of technique (IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, stereotactic radiosurgery)
  • Review of the dose and fractionation scheme
  • Whether proton therapy would genuinely provide benefit
  • Sparing of critical organs and expected side effects
  • Suitability of re-irradiation in a previously treated area

Files requested

  • Pathology report and staging information
  • Planning CT / MRI and current imaging reports
  • Dose and plan details if radiotherapy was given previously
  • Discharge summary and a summary of treatments received
